It's more of a UX/UI difficulty than a thorny one. It's tremendously more expensive and time consuming to basically"start over" and begin building a new universe from scratch, 1 gameplay mechanic at one time, on standalone servers. Even outsourcing the sport like they did, it doesn't make sense.
The only way that this whole business experience makes sense (and I promise the only way it'd have gotten via its greenlight procedure at CCP) would be if the aim was to make a version that was balanced so significantly different from the first that it could not be integrated into the present universe. And the only way you get this approved is whether you are able to convince them that doing so will bring in a brand new playerbase that isn't already paying for EO.
Whatever their public roadmap states, or the confident opinions of present EO gamers, it does not make financial or business -- or frankly, even"create present clients happy" sense -- to earn EE play precisely like EO as time passes. Hence that the EO gamers in here stating"EE is going to end up just like EO because people are the principles, so cope" don't seem to understand there's no compelling reason for them to actually do that.
