Understanding the Various Kinds of Water Meters

To learn more, consumers are directed to read white papers, see videos. Use choosing tools to recognize the right flow analysis product for their fluid and water flow use. If you feel any confusion related to any device, you can give us a call or drop a comment.

The question is, what water flow meter types should users preferred for their water flow analysis purpose? There are six vital water flow meters:

  • Mechanical water flow meters
  • Ultrasonic flowmeters
  • Vortex volumetric flow meters
  • Magnetic flow meters
  • positive displacement
  • electromagnetic flow meter

Positive Displacement

Displacement water meters are the most basic water meters for domestic and small commercial premises. They hold mechanical parts, an oscillating piston removed or moved as water runs by the meter’s main chamber. These moving parts include the amount of water and enhance the reading on the meter by a particular amount.

Electromagnetic Flow Meter

Electromagnetic Flow meters are more prevalent in industrial and mechanical buildings. Inside an electromagnetic water flow meter type, an electromagnetic coil creates a magnetic field and plates. The transmitter means the voltage sensed by the electrodes to give a regulated output sign or presented an improper metering unit.

Ultrasonic Flow Meter

Ultrasonic water flow meters hold the velocity of fluid moving by the pipe using ultrasound to gauge the volumetric flow. In a transit time ultrasonic fluid flow meter. An ultrasonic sign is sent in the course of the flowing fluid downstream. Then another sign is sent against the flowing liquid upstream. In its most basic kind, the time for the sonic pulse to move downstream is related to the time for the pulse to travel upwards.

Vortex Flow Meters

Vortex water flow meters use vortices cast from a sensor involved in the flow. Vortices are powers of nature. Swirls originated when a liquid moves past an obstacle, like the wind past a flagpole or water running around a rock in a stream. A sensor tab moves from side to side in a vortex meter when each vortex flows past—creating a rated output that is directly equal to the volumetric flow rate.

Mechanical Flow Meters

The mechanical types of water flow meters work by regulating water running through the pipe that causes a piston or turbine to turn. They are the most popular and low-cost water flow meter types. It performs flow analysis through turbine rotation with a shunt, propeller, or paddle wheel design. The volumetric flow rate of the water is equal to the rotational velocity of the blades.

Magnetic Flow Meter

Magnetic flowmeters hold the rate of a fluid crossing by a pipe using a magnetic field to keep the volumetric flow. They are based on Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction, according to which water creates a voltage when it passes by a magnetic field. The more active the fluid flow, the more the voltage produced.

The best water flow meter types to use relies upon different use. For example, some flowmeters run well when holding other things.
